This article is a reflection on the operation of translating, extracted from the experience of teaching the Spanish language to Italian students, preparing them to face a translation test. The student must be capable to demonstrate that he or she is conscious of the problems that translating implicates. The author offers a practical example of translation, preceded of some references to the theoretical aspects of it and to the phases that the operation of translation of a text to a different linguistic system and to a different culture requires.
