Dos ortografías frente a frente en la obra de Malón de Chaide

Pedro Malón de Chaide wanted his work to be printed according to his own orthographic criteria, which was different to what was usual for the printers. In the Foreword of La conversión de la Magdalena he complains that–after he neglected the supervision of the edition work–, he noticed, when agreat part of the book had been already printed, that some of his spelling rules had been changed for the ones generally accepted at the time. The rest of the book was going to be printed paying attention to the writer’s indications, but the first sheets of the last part were printed with a mixture of the two contradictory spelling criteria. In the present work we try to explain how such a thing could take place, turning to everything we know about the making process of a book in the Golden Century, and to the provisions in force that related to it in the different realms of Spain.
