Abstract

133
We propose an archetypical analysis of “Circe” and “Ciao, Verona” de Cortazar, by confronting the feminine personages and the images of femininity in both stories with the elements associated to the femme fatale archetype. We conclude, first, that, while “Circe” offers an actualized an urbanized version of the femme fatale, “Ciao, Verona” returns to the psychological origins of that tradition, representing the woman as a menace to a masculine world. Second, we conclude that the femme fatale of Cortazar is a multiple  personage that combines several traditions and that so doing converts into a symbol of the eternal repetition and renovation of the femme fatale archetype.
