César Vallejo remained in prison for one hundred and twelve days in 1920-1921. This circumstance left a very important mark in his life and in his poetry, which we propose to investigate in this work. We begin by reviewing the texts of Trilce and Escalas in which this experience is recounted; we analyze in them certain characteristics that imply the concretion of some of the themes present in Los heraldos negros, and also an announcement of his later books, especially Poemas humanos. According to our reading, Vallejo’s poetry becomes more conscious of the corporeal through the prison experience, and the days in jail are also decisive for the formation of a poetics of solidarity.
