Abstract

Don García’s lies in La verdad sospechosa have routinely aroused intense reactions not only among the characters in the work, but also among contemporary readers and critics. This study examines the theme of lieing in its 17th-century context, most fundamentally, in relation to the structure of Juan Ruiz de Alaracón’s comedy, and in particular, with reference to the work’s denoument.
