Abstract

145
Terms used to describe the state of being outside of onself in Golden Age literature (“abandono,” “desafuero,” “pasmo,” “suspensión,” “enajenación,” “transposición,” “transportación,” “embeleso,” “turbación”) abound to such an extent that an examination of what role this suspension plays in the aesthetics of the period is necessary. This paper examines several philosophical and aesthetic sources from the 17th Century to tie suspension to doubt and surprise, which the Baroque subject understood as the basis both for artistic creation and for the receptor’s response to such creations.
