Abstract

This article describes the origin and development of radio in the Basque Country, and then analyses the present structure of this sector. It focuses on the decade from 1986 to 1996, during wich the present radiophonic map reorganished as a result of licences granted in 1987 and 1989. Its development wich ran along similar lines to that in the rest of Spain, shows coexistence between public and private radio, with a majority of stations in the public sector, and the warning of local in the face of competition for networks.
