Metabolic studies with zinc-65. I. Preliminary data on absorption and elimination in rabbits injected by intraperitoneal route

Abstract
The present work is a study on the absorption and elimination of Zn-65 in common rabbits injected into the peritoneum with Solutions of Cl2 Zn-65 of 100 /zc/c.c. These animáis were sacrificed at different intervals of time from one hour up to 30 days and during these periods were collected faeces and urine. The faeces were made homogeneous and were digested by the Banks system. The isolated organs, were washed, dried and digested woth N03H.
The concentraron of Zn-65 was measured with a Geiger Miiller liquid counter and was refered microcuries/gr. and in so much per cent of the dose injected/gr. of dry weight. In the feaces and uriníƒe was refered in so much per cent of the dose injected in the total excreted daily.
The fecal elimination was intense in the first few days. Afterwards it decreased progressively. At the 30-th day through this way 85 per cent of the injected dose was elimated. The elimination through the uriníƒe was very small.
The liver, páncreas, spleen and intestines rapidly assimilated and dissimilated the zinc. In the muscles, brains and bo- nes it was notices that it was retained, and assimilated and dissimilated slowly.
