Abstract

Protein synthesis effected by isolated chloroplasts of young pea leaves has been studied in relation with variable concentrations of mercaptoethanol, magnesium and potassium ions, ATP generating system, GTP, CTP, UTP, mixture of added amino acids and ammonium ions. The amino acid mixture stimulated the synthesis if the chloroplasts used were isolated from young leaves, whilst the activator effect of the ammonium ions was made patent upon mature chloroplasts. Possible diverse contaminations had a mínimum participation in the protein synthesis.
