Influence of dietary ethyl linoleate, ethyl linolenate and choline upon fatty acid metabolism of rat heart

Abstract

The effects of dietary linoleate plus linolenate on heart phosphatides of essential fatty acid-deficient rats were investigated; a group of the animals received in addition choline. The fatty acid composition of heart phosphatides was determined by gas-liquid chromatography. Linolenate inhibits the incorporation of linoleate and its derivatives into phosphatides. Choline-fed rats show a greater incorporation of linoleate and C32-fatty acids and a smaller one of eicosatrienoic acid into heart phosphatides.
