Effect of several psychotropic drugs on the oxygen and glucose uptake by brain tissue, in vitro

Abstract
It is studied the effect of several psychotropic drugs on the Oxygen and glucose uptake of brain slices and Oxygen consumption of whole brain homogenates. Diazepam inhibitis oxygen and glucose uptake. Perphenazine decreases the oxygen uptake and increases the glucose uptake. Halloperidol inhibits oxygen consumption in homogenates and glucose uptake in slices, but increases oxygen uptake in brain slices. The other psychotropic substances do not produce any other significant modifications.
