Para el periodismo, estos procesos también poseen enorme importancia. Los lectores demandan una información más abundante cuando hay una guerra, suscita su interés; lo cual obliga a desplegar una actividad informativa más intensa y a poner más medios al servicio de los lectores y de la audiencia en general. Con todo ello se produce un desarrollo, un crecimiento que conviene valorar en su justa medida.
Todo esto no puede hacernos olvidar las consecuencias negativas, pues, como poco, la anormalidad de una situación deguerra presenta unas trabas que no se dan en la normalidad. A este aspecto es al cual queremos ceñirnos y centrarnos en
un caso muy concreto, pues presentó ciertas peculiaridades.
Efectivamente, la etapa 1914-1918, simultánea en el tiempo con el conflicto bélico centrado fundamentalmente en Europa, la denominada Gran Guerra, presentó para el periodismo español una coyuntura excepcional, motivada por la convergencia de fuerzas de distinta naturaleza y que modificaron de modo neto el modo de realizar la actividad informativa.
Procuraremos, por lo tanto, centrarnos en los rasgos más destacables y, de esta manera, acercarnos a un momento
histórico en el cual se produjo un progreso periodístico apreciable.
