Effect of l-dopa on the thyroid function and the plasma lipids

Abstract
Effect of L-Dopa on the Thyroid Function and the Plasma Lipids. Rev. esp. Fistol., 30, 145-150. 1974.
Male and female guinea pigs weighing approximately 350 g at the beginning of the experiment were given in the diet 100 mg/kg body weight of L-dopa during 45 days. A significan! decrease of thyroid ,31I and Ia7I, and of serum ,a‘I was observed. In the females was also seen an inhibition of l,II thyroid uptake. The thyroid hormonal synthesis and the serum levels of la7PBI were not affected. L-dopa caused also a marked increase of total plasma lipids reflected in all the individual fractions studied, such as cholesterol, triglycerides and phospholipids.
